Job Description

Job Summary:

The Sterile Processing Department Educator has advance knowledge and skills and demonstrates a high degree of clinical competency in Sterile Processing. The SPD Educator promotes and supports the use of industry standards and is responsible for partnering with the leadership team in planning, implementing, and appraisal of the orientation technical competency for all sterile processing technicians and hospital based practices where surgical instruments are processed. The SPD Educator is responsible for the department Quality Assurance Programs and SPD policies and procedures.

Essential Functions:

  • Interacts with co-workers, visitors, and other staff consistent with the values of Jefferson.
  • Recognizes the patients, their family/designated care partner(s) in providing safe, compassionate and coordinated care based on respect for patient#39;s personal preferences, priorities, needs, and cultural beliefs and values.
  • Communicates with and supports the interprofessional team, patient, family and designated care partners.
  • Manages the Sterile Processing amp; Case Cart Quality Assurance Program, including utilizing a multi-disciplinary approach for quality projects to enhance clinical outcomes in the perioperative setting
  • Collaborates in the development, implementation and evaluation of quality assurance activities, policies and procedures to ensure the safety and integrity of sterile processing products
  • Evaluates Sterile Processing amp; Case Cart policies, procedures and practices to assure practice is in accordance with professional standards, accrediting regulations and standard across the organization
  • Utilizes instrument tracking system as needed to review data for compliance with manufacturerrsquo;s instructions for use and quality assurance programs/processes
  • Keeps current on knowledge of Sterile Processing standards, regulations, protocols, products, and equipment according to AAMI, AORN, local and state regulations, Joint Commission, OSHA, FDA, and CDC
  • Ensures that all staff receive comprehensive training and orientation
  • Foster an engaged and learning environment by promoting clinical practice leader/clinical educator participation in continuing education programs (e.g., CME/CEU).
  • Develops and maintains a training schedule for continuing education and training for each hospital based on needs and with flexibility to adjust to better address pain points of the department. Conducts audits of staff training records/ competencies to ensure compliance with governing guidelines
  • Facilitates individual, team and organizational performance management that include competency development and evaluation, change management processes, work and accountability processes, performance consultation and mentoring staff, demonstrate professional communication skill, and development of job/performance aids.
  • Performs various other training duties related to Sterile Processing Department. Travels to facility sites as needed to conduct training.

Education:

High school diploma or equivalent required.

Associates or Bachelorrsquo;s Degree Preferred

Graduate of certified sterile processing technician training program

AND

Experience:

Minimum experience of 5 yrs. in the sterile processing field. Minimum one-year previous management/leadership experience preferred.
