Overview:

This Staff Mechanical Design Engineer is a key member of the mechanical engineering team, leading development of complex wafer processing equipment that are used to manufacture advanced semiconductors, Advanced Packaging, LEDs, displays, photonics, VCSELs, power electronics, compound semiconductors, hard disk drives, MEMS, and RF chips. This role involves leading overall Process Chamber design, including wafer tooling, vessel design, electromechanical device design among others in a highly aggressive environment. The role also requires setting and ensuring developed BKMs are established in new tool designs through execution of design reviews and variation standards.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead development of new process chamber features and product enhancements.
  • Set and execute on a process chamber technology roadmap ensuring continued improvements to quality, performance, and new feature role out.
  • Provide mechanical engineering expertise, while focusing on design quality, reliability, effective cost, and ease of manufacturing.
  • Perform analytical studies and theoretical calculations, requiring a variety of engineering knowledge, including analysis of pressure vessels, heat transfer, material structural analysis, static and dynamic, fluids, and motion mechanisms.
  • Evolve new and innovative methods for product design by utilizing additive manufacturing.
  • Ensure that manufacturing processes are compliant withstandard design practices and safety codes; ensure appropriate tests are in place to produce reliable products in a repeatable manner.
  • Provide expertise in mechanical engineering while participating in design reviews.
  • Support procurement efforts in correlation with overall project deadlines.
  • Provide "hands on" assistance and support to the manufacturing team.
  • Develop test plans and design of experiments and is directly involved in prototype development and testing.
  • Create and release engineering documentation through the Engineering Change Order (ECO) process.
  • Support Program Management with project flow through the Product Life Cycle (PLC) Phase gates.
  • Prepare presentations and present design concepts, ideas, and test results to internal and external customers.

Qualifications:
BS Degree in Mechanical Engineering with a minimum of 12 years of experience designing and manufacturing capital equipment, subassemblies, or components; or an MS degree in Mechanical Engineering with 8years of experience. MS degree preferred.Experience with SolidWorks and AutoCAD, or similar 3D CAD systems is required as is finite element analysis experience, both structural and thermal.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment as part of a multi-disciplinary team, able to take initiative, own full projects, and/or lead a small project team.
  • Experience in design and manufacture of molded plastic vessels is required.
  • Experience in design and manufacture of welded metallic vessels is required.
  • Experience with SAP, or similar PLM system is required.
  • General knowledge of electrical and software engineeringdisciplines.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including specification development; ability to make technical presentations and interface with all levels of management, suppliers, and customers.
  • Experience working with Additive Manufacturing is a plus.
  • Knowledge of industrial control systems, sensors, automation, robotics, instrumentation, motion control, motor selection, encoders, electronic packaging, SEMI regulatory standards is a plus.
  • Project management experience is a plus.
  • Must be hands-on with devices, prototyping, and troubleshooting.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office suite.
  • Ability to travel up to 10% of the time to customer sites and/or supplier facilities on an as-needed basis.

The expected salary range for this position is $131,000 - $165,000 + bonus + benefits. When determining your pay, we will consider your location, experience, and other job-related factors.
