Job Description

PRIMARY FUNCTION:

Reporting to the Manager Respiratory Therapy Services, supervises, plans and directs staff to complete the daily patient clinical demands. Maintains records and standards in accordance with department, hospital and regulatory agency requirements. Performs in a clinical capacity when necessary to provide clinical therapy/evaluation for patients of all ages.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Meets all standards of the Patient Satisfaction Initiative Criteria in order to make Abington ndash; Jefferson Health (AJH) the hospital of choice for Patients and Employees.
  1. Monitors and maintains functions of the specialty laboratories including Pulmonary Function and Arterial Blood Gas to ensure compliance with department, hospital and regulatory board standards.
  1. Participates as clinical coordinator for students from Respiratory Therapy schools to assure that students receive all appropriate clinical instruction and evaluation. Oversee nursery coordinator and staff to ensure this unit is run with current evidence practice and fully competent therapists.
  1. Acts in the capacity of a Registered Respiratory Therapist in the clinical setting for all ages when necessary to maintain clinical competence and ensure efficient department operations.
  1. Shares in duties required for appropriate department functions including but not limited to; inventory, ordering, policy writing and revision.
  1. Provides in-services and continuing education for staff to assist in maintaining competency.
  1. Incorporates employee engagement and problem solving skills into performance improvement functions to assure ongoing evaluation and improvement of clinical services. Prepares daily work assignment of staff to provide adequate level of patient care and coverage for committees and projects.
  1. Collaborates with other departments and staff to ensure appropriate quality of patient care is achieved.
  1. Evaluates and delivers performance appraisals annually and as needed to assigned staff. Maintains documentation and provides feedback regularly on all staff while acting as a mentor to help individuals achieve personal and hospital goals.
  1. Works under the supervision of the Laboratory Director and Respiratory Department Manager to maintain procedure manuals and oversees procedures in the ABG lab to ensure proper instrument use and quality control of results and testing. Evaluates new reagents according to established standards.
  1. Serves as a member of hospital committees to provide Respiratory expertise. Is an actively engaged member of the department and hospital and encourages this behavior from staff.
  1. Performs other duties as assigned.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Experience:

2+ years as a supervisor or 3+ years as staff with evidence of increasing responsibilities within the respiratory function. Minimum 6 months critical care experience in all age groups

  1. Education amp; Training:

Graduate of a CoArc approved respiratory school required. Bachelor degree preferred.

  1. License, Certification amp; Registration:

Current Commonwealth of Pennsylvania R.R.T.; B.C.L.S. certification required. Valid driverrsquo;s license.

  1. Other Requirements:

Current auto insurance with proof of coverage required. Must possess a driving record free from major violations within the past five years, and maintain an acceptable driving record with no major violations in accordance with Motor Vehicle Regulations and Abington ndash; Jefferson Healthrsquo;s auto insurance policy. Any and all major violations incurred must be immediately reported to the manager, department head, or Human Resources department.

Since this position will require the selected candidate to engage in regular contact with children in the form of care, guidance, supervision or training, you will be required to meet the requirements of the Child Protective Services Act, including the Pennsylvania State Police criminal background check, the Pennsylvania Department of Welfare child abuse criminal background clearance, and an FBI finger print based federal criminal records check. The selected candidate will not be allowed to commence working until all three (3) are completed satisfactorily.
