As a Traffic Intern, you will work in the District Traffic Unit both in the field and in the office. You will complete tasks related to highway signing, pavement markings, traffic studies and safety, traffic control signals, and intelligent transportation system (ITS) devices. You will also assist with conducting reviews of highway signing and delineation and document missing or damaged signs or delineation devices compared to a printed inventory, as well as assist with reviewing existing curve advisory signing, location, and advisory speeds for compliance with standards based on field measurements with a vehicle mounted ball-bank indicator and distance measuring instrument, (DMI).
In this position, you will also assist a traffic control technician, specialist, or supervisor in gathering field data and measurements, performing analysis, and preparing documents for traffic studies and perform a variety of office functions including working with computers with spreadsheets, word documents, and dedicated department computer systems relative to traffic operations, studies, and safety. You will assist and perform duties as instructed relating to traffic control signal and ITS devices.
Internship opportunities associated with this posting will be for Engineering District 9 which consists of Bedford, Blair, Cambria, Fulton, Huntingdon, and Somerset Counties.
