Job Description

Opportunity for a Senior Electrical Engineer to join our Surgical Motor Solutions (SMS) group to develop new products around custom electronics motor drive & electromagnetic designs for miniature motor systems. They will also focus on sustaining engineering support for our customers and for the manufacturing team, as well as innovation to enable technology breakthroughs that extend our ability to serve our customer's unmet needs. In addition to working with the US based teams, they will also work globally on joint projects with our Indian and Swiss R&D teams.

The SMS group focuses primarily on the design of BLDC motors for medical device OEMs. These motors are the heart of the surgical devices they power and directly impact the lives of the surgeons who use them and the patients they treat. The Senior Electrical Engineer is essential to Portescap's growth strategy, requiring creative, effective, and flexible individuals able to succeed in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.

What You'll Do

  • Design and development of new and advanced miniature motor drive systems, drive electronics, PCB design, control algorithm from concept to production in a cross functional engineering environment.
  • Develop and integrate constantly innovative technologies that extend the performance and capabilities of our product portfolio
  • Focused & flexible approach towards continuous improvements in existing systems, product development & problem-solving processes
  • Develop test plan & customized test set-up to enable thorough product qualification
  • Support manufacturing staff with troubleshooting and provide feedback on quality related topics
  • Work with customers to create technical proposals for new product applications
  • Work closely with Customers, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, and the Commercial Team to gather design inputs from various sources and translate input into engineering requirements
  • Support internal and external customer product engineering requests

Qualifications

  • B.S. Electrical Engineering or equivalent required; advanced degree preferred
  • 8 or more years of experience in design and manufacturing environment is required
  • 8 or more years of experience in electric machine design, electronics drive & controller design is required
  • Experience with DC or AC motors including control, testing, specifications, and applications is required
  • Experience incorporating customer requirements into technical proposals / designs is preferred
  • Hands-on experience with electrical and mechanical test equipment such as signal generators, DVM, oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, tension/torsion testers, thermal chambers and vibration monitoring is required
  • Experience troubleshooting electronics or electrical assemblies is required
  • Experience with Magtrol motor test equipment or similar dynamometer systems is preferred
  • Experience working directly with customers or external OEMs is preferred
