Description

The Analytical Chemist - Lab Support for Formulation Development role is responsible for executing formulation development efforts for investigational pharmaceutical products, including liquid solutions and suspensions and solid dosage forms. The work may involve lab-scale powder handling, such as blending, granulation, encapsulation, or compression, cell culture, material dispense, shipping, and workflow optimization.

Qualifications - BS/MS in chemistry, materials science, engineering, or a related discipline

  • Scientist 2 - BS (1-2 years of relevant experience), or MS with no experience
  • Scientist 3 - BS (3-5 years of relevant experience), or MS with 1-2 years of relevant experience

Required Skills and Experience

  • Strong laboratory and analytical skills
  • Documentation and reporting of results
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

Desired Skills and Experience

  • Research or industrial experience with at least one of the following techniques is beneficial: X-Ray Powder Diffraction (XRPD), Raman Spectroscopy, Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC)
  • Prior experience in a pharmaceutical product development laboratory is beneficial
  • Prior experience with cell culture is beneficial
  • Strong interpersonal skills and comfortable interacting with a variety of collaborators

Responsibilities

  • Prepare liquid and solid formulations
  • Assist with shipping, handling, and dispensing of materials
  • Assisting with operating and maintaining compaction simulators and other instruments
  • Assisting in maintaining a safe laboratory work environment
  • Characterization of crystalline and amorphous phases in pharmaceutical products
  • Documentation and reporting of results to a senior scientist
  • Effective interaction with other technical groups including partnership with a scientific supervisor
  • Support of laboratory investigations of unexpected results as needed
  • Perform cell assays with prepared formulations
