What you will do:

We are seeking a Sr Staff Engineer to proactively lead and/or participate on cross functional teams (i.e. manufacturing, design, quality, supply chain) with team members located in different regions, globally, to drive continuous improvement of products and processes for chiller products (screw and scroll chillers). This person must have the knowledge to help guide the teams technically to resolve complex product design and application issues based on years of product experience, education, and training. The candidate will have extensive knowledge of chiller operations with a focus on Data Center applications.

How you will do it:

  • Communicates at the appropriate technical level to resolve issues for Product Technical Support, Field Technicians and customers.

  • Participates on product development teams with emphasis on DFMEA's, SFMEA's design reviews, reliability test plans, design for manufacturing and helping to coordinate and follow up on field testing.

  • Working with the Technical Communications Group, is responsible for the technical content of service literature which includes Installation and Operations Manuals, Service Manuals, Service Information letters, and Service Bulletins for air cooled chiller products. Also, responsible to provide input for the technical content of training materials.

  • Communicates with design, manufacturing and service groups globally sharing lessons learned and best practices to prevent issues from arising on new products being introduced to the market place and improve product quality and cost.

  • Participates on Warranty Teams to stay abreast of field issues and participate with multi-disciplined teams to find root cause and corrective actions for resolution of these issues. Must be proactive, stepping in to take the lead, coordinating and directing actions, to resolve issues as the situation may require.

  • Work with Engineering team to test programs to validate potential methods of reducing human intervention for service and maintenance of chillers and their components.

  • Work closely with the chiller product teams in generating service enabling product enhancements that consider the best balance of cost, performance, and reliability.

  • Work closely with the Product Teams on Chiller Retrofit offerings, the improvement of Fault Detection Diagnostics, the implementation of Digital Twin technologies, and finding ways to move from time-based maintenance recommendations to proactive condition-based recommendations.

  • Utilize warranty returns as a source of content from component tear downs, to troubleshooting content for knowledge exchange.

  • Work with technical support teams to identify case trends to develop content for knowledge exchange.

  • Coordinate field trials for air cooled products.

What we look for:

Required

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Manufacturing, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering. Other forms of training and/or education will be considered.

  • Must have a minimum of 15 years of experience with the design, operation and/or screw or scroll chillers.

  • Experience with the application of scroll and/or screw chillers (or similar products) in Data Center or Mission Critical applications.

  • Experience working on product development team with knowledge of Product Development Process(es) including design reviews and DFMEA's and SFMEA's.

  • Knowledge of application and troubleshooting chillers, including BAS systems using BACnet, Modbus, LON, and N2 protocols.

  • Ability to work as part of multifunctional team. Proficiency in Microsoft Suite Applications (Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint) as well as Internet software and E-mail is required.

  • Must be able to communicate effectively to all levels within the organization and be fluent in English.

  • Domestic and International travel (approximately 15% of time).

Preferred:

  • A graduate degree with focus on software development is strongly preferred.

  • Experience accessing and using manufacturing systems.

  • Demonstrated Six Sigma skills.

  • Ability to speak Spanish and/or Chinese.
