This opportunity is for a therapist to provide school based counseling services in local schools. School therapists work on site in schools to assess student needs, provide consultation, and education to school personnel, and make referrals. This position also provides counseling services in an outpatient program to individuals of all ages. Under guidance of the supervisor, the therapist will establish a written goal-specific treatment plan, serve as a resource, collaborate on mental health cases and consult with colleagues, community individuals, or agencies on cases to assist in providing the highest quality of services.

This position as a professional therapist offers school based counseling services within schools and outpatient services in the Bedford County Clinical Services Unit. The school based counseling responsibilities involve providing group, individual, and play therapy to children and adolescents in the school, as well as offering consultation and education to school personnel, community individuals, and agencies regarding mental health issues and resources. Additionally, the therapist will conduct school mental health assessments and intakes for identified students, assess student needs, and collaborate with crisis intervention staff during mental health emergencies in schools.
The therapist will also be responsible for providing individual therapy, family therapy, couples counseling, and group counseling to individuals of all ages in the outpatient services. Working under the guidance of the supervisor, they will utilize various professional techniques and collaborate with clients to establish a strengths-based, goal-specific treatment plan within the Electronic Medical Record (EMR). The therapist will also engage in discussions about mental health cases with other staff and community individuals or agencies, conduct therapy diagnostic evaluations, make referrals to other programs as needed, and coordinate care with crisis intervention staff for crisis assessments related to voluntary hospitalizations. Additionally, the therapist will conduct an eight-week, hourly group session once a year as part of the extended out patient program, focusing on topics that promote self-care, self-management, and self-recovery. Attendance at meetings, participation in staff development trainings, and assistance with presentations/trainings to community organizations may also be required.
