Job Description

Widener University is currently seeking a Media Production Manager in the Communication Studies Department of the College of Arts and Sciences. This position reports to the Chair and is an integral member of the Communication Studies department. The Media Production Manager provides technological support to the state-of-the-art television studio, podcast studio, equipment room, graphics lab, and editing suites. This staff member will partner with faculty to provide an industry-standard production studio experience. The Media Production Manager mentors student-production groups, including WU Productions and Widener Film Society. This staff member will also assist the department manage the digital screens inside Freedom Hall and contribute content to departmental social media channels.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (including, but not limited to):

Essential duties:

  • Oversee the technical and production functions of the television studio, control room, podcast studio, editing suites, equipment room, and graphics lab.
  • Update the digital screens within Freedom Hall to reflect upcoming events or relevant content, such as an Alumni/Student feature series.
  • Collaborate with University Relations and Campus Athletes on special projects, including podcasts and video production. This also includes assisting with live-streaming events.
  • Advise student-run groups, including WU Productions (student-led-broadcast organization), Widener Film Society (independent films), and other out-of-the-classroom production-related functions.
  • Participate in departmental events such as Widener Day Admitted Students Day, TEDx Widener, and Commencement.

Secondary responsibilities:

  • Contribute content to departmental social media channels.
  • Manage outreach events such as collaboration with the Philadelphia Union and a Summer Mini-Camp.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (education/training and experience required):

Required:

  • BA or BS in Communication Studies or a complementary discipline
  • One to three years of experience working in a television studio environment
  • Working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite and Microsoft Office, and ability to maintain video equipment, apply firmware updates; perform minor repairs and update firmware
  • Ability to operate digital DSLR cameras and lighting equipment applications;
  • Working knowledge of audio/video patch bay configurations
  • Demonstrated proficiency with digital video editing, Final Cut Pro, Premiere, TV/Film production studios, and broadcast equipment
  • Ability to maintain a positive demeanor at all times in a fast-paced environment with frequent interruptions
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively with faculty and staff. Leadership skills are essential to mentor student organizations and work independently.
  • Ability to manage media equipment utilization and circulation process;
  • Consult faculty to define equipment and services needs and priorities, and move equipment between facilities to maximize customer satisfaction; set up and operate equipment as requested.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND/OR UNUSUAL HOURS:

  • Subject to standing, walking, sitting, bending, reaching, kneeling, pushing and pulling, lifting fifty pounds, repetitive motions.
  • Willing to work occasional evening and weekend hours as needed
