Duties & Responsibilities

  • The Community Outreach Specialist works to develop and implement a comprehensive and targeted outreach plan that cultivates partnerships with: individuals, the local opioid abuse task force, substance abuse prevention coalition, homeless coalition, court, domestic violence shelters, other community & faith-based organizations, schools, city programs and events, and leaders that can refer eligible and appropriate participants to Eckerd Connects substance abuse programs serving those with opioid misuse history and/or youth at-risk for opioid abuse.
  • Present and discuss the eligibility requirements and benefits of Eckerd Connects programs with referral sources as well as with the prospective participants themselves.
  • Attend and present at community events to increase visibility within the community as well as assist in set up and break down of those events.
  • Follow up on new leads and referrals resulting from outreach activity in a timely fashion.
  • Perform community and street canvassing activities under supervisor's direction.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Professional knowledge of, or professional experience working with, persons in recovery from substance use. Experience working with targeted population preferred. Having been directly or indirectly impacted by the opioid crisis preferred.
  • Must be willing to work flexible hours which may include some weekends, but not to exceed 40 hours per week.
  • Must be able to meet requirements for Eckerd Connects' auto insurance and be able to drive employee's own car for business purposes. Must have and maintain an appropriate and valid state driver's license. Travel may be up to 30% each month but may exceed at certain times.
  • Required to pass a drug screen in compliance with our Substance Abuse and Drug-Free Workplace policy.

About Our Workforce Programs:

Eckerd Connects provides Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) services through contracts with the U.S. Department of Labor and local workforce boards, partnerships, and strategies to provide and create a career pathway for youth, adults, and dislocated workers. Training services include occupational skills training, customized training, on-the-job training, incumbent worker training, and transitional employment opportunities. We provide youth with development, academic instruction, career & technical education, and access to the 14 WIOA Youth Elements. We establish and develop relationships and networks with large and small employers and their intermediaries as well as develop, convene, or implement industry or sector partnerships.
