DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As an Environmental Education Specialist, you will develop, coordinate, and implement aquatic resource education programs across northcentral and southcentral Pennsylvania for the Fish and Boat Commission. These specialized educational programs support the agency's mission, strategic plan, and efforts in recruitment, retention, and reactivation of anglers and boaters in the Commonwealth.

You will facilitate in-person and virtual programs, training, and workshops focusing on fishing skills, boating safety, aquatic ecology, fisheries management, and instructor level training and certification courses. Audiences include formal and non-formal educators, school students, youth groups, adult groups, other agency staff, and the general public. Strong communication and leadership skills are essential, as you will serve as the agency liaison for organizations engaged in aquatic resource conservation, recreation, angler education, boating education, travel, and related tourism. You will have the opportunity to work collaboratively with other agencies and partner organizations to build capacity for education programs and services.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time (75hr biweekly) for 44 weeks, part-time (45hrs biweekly) for 8 weeks.
  • Full-time benefits eligible for all 52 weeks.
  • Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Work schedule may vary to include night and weekend shifts.
  • Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Harrisburg.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • A bachelor's degree in environmental education, education, the natural sciences, social sciences, or parks and recreation; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.
  • Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within 3 months of graduating with a qualifying degree.

Conditions of Employment:

  • You must be willing to work weekends and evenings.
  • You must be willing to wear a prescribed uniform.

Other Requirements:

  • This particular position also requires a valid Pennsylvania driver's license which is not under suspension.

  • This position falls under the provisions of the Child Protective Services Law.
