The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation is looking for a dedicated individual with excellent attention to detail and strong analytical abilities to join our team as an Engineering Technician. Our year-long training program covers various engineering areas such as construction, maintenance, highway safety, and traffic, preparing you for a permanent role within our District. In the role of an Engineering Technician, your primary responsibility will be to assist in the preparation of various highway plans, bridge plans, right-of-way plot plans, and other related drawings. You will utilize Computer-Aided Drafting and Design (CADD) workstations or conventional drafting techniques to develop these plans. Working under the guidance of senior members, you will draft detailed construction plans, check grade lines, draw profiles and cross sections, compute earthwork quantities, and calculate excavation. Additionally, you will interpret deeds and surveys to create right-of-way plans and plan sheets of existing geometry.
You will also assist in the preparation of drainage and design sketches, as well as complete sets of highway and bridge plans. Your role will involve using the Roadway Management System (RMS) to gather segment and offset information, preparing maps and graphs for presentations, and participating in design field views, inspections, and meetings.
It is important to deliver quality projects within budget and on time, while providing excellent customer service and promoting communication between Design, Maintenance, and Construction. This position requires maintaining a professional and responsive approach to project delivery, being open to new opportunities, and implementing innovative ideas.
