This grant-funded position reports to the WELL Associate Director of Adult Education. The WELL Math Literacy Instructor will provide Adult Basic Education (ABE) and literacy instruction in a workforce context to participants in the WELL Program at the TU-Lenfest Center for Community Workforce Partnerships on the main campus, remotely, and as assigned within the Philadelphia community.

The qualified candidate will provide evidence of a secondary-education Mathematics certification or completion of academic courses that demonstrate equivalent knowledge of and competence in teaching mathematics concepts and processes up to secondary education level (7-12) and ABE level equivalency six and assisting with data and technology-related processes. All literacy instructors are expected to be flexible regarding instructional assignments. Candidates should be able to demonstrate the ability to: teach, motivate, and relate positively to adult learners; learn and apply instructional tools, websites, resources, and technologies effectively; successfully access and apply PA educational standards for College and Career Readiness (CCRS) and Common Core Standards (CCS); be knowledgeable of Adult Basic Education, Philadelphia Dept. of Education (PDE) instructional guidelines, and Philadelphia ABE coalitions.

Required Education & Experience:

Bachelor's degree and 6 months of directly related experience with higher level Mathematics or transferrable stem-related course work required. At least two (2) years experience in adult education, working with academically and socially challenged adult populations. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

*Demonstrated experience and ability to teach, motivate, and relate positively to adult learners.

*Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and ability to interact professionally with a diverse population of staff, faculty, and students.

*Demonstrated ability to effectively learn and utilize educational tools, websites, resources, and technologies.

*Demonstrated ability to access and apply PA educational standards for CCRS and CCS.

*Knowledgeable of PDE instructional guidelines for adult education and literacy.

*Demonstrated cultural sensitivity, adult education, workforce development, career readiness, and transitional career opportunities for the primary instructional area.

*Demonstrated organizational, problem-solving, and time-management skills.

*Demonstrated ability to operate standard office equipment.

*Demonstrated proficiency with the Internet, E-mail, Google Apps, and MS Office 365 (Word, Excel & PowerPoint, and Outlook). *Demonstrated ability to travel to off-site locations (local & regional) that may not be accessible via public transportation.

*Instructors are expected to use online instructional tools and websites, LCD projectors, and other equipment to facilitate training-knowledge of various database software applications to manage program information.

*Ability to travel by foot, on public transportation or use their car (travel reimbursement is available from the main campus).

*A valid driver's license is required.

Preferred:

*Master's degree and teaching certification in secondary mathematics.

*Familiarity with state and local adult education policies and resources.

*Familiarity with job readiness/workforce development and instructional resources.

*Knowledgeable of e-Data systems.

This position is assigned a hybrid work arrangement (on-campus and remote), the duration of this hybrid work arrangement is at the discretion of Temple University and the Department.
