Job Description

Carnegie Mellon University's Finance Division is searching for an Associate, Global Payroll Specialist to join their team. This is an exciting opportunity for someone who thrives in an interesting and challenging work environment. You will contribute to the department by providing support by operating as a member of a team of experts dedicated to processing payroll and administering related pay activities for the university's faculty, staff and students (i.e., standard and off-cycle payroll runs, W-2 processing, garnishment maintenance, treaty documentation for non-resident aliens, etc.) using Workday HR/Payroll System.

Core responsibilities include:
  • Entering payroll data into Workday for the gross-to-net payroll functions, analysis and resolution of payroll issues in the case management queue, evaluation and administration of treaty documentation for non-resident aliens

  • Handling payroll processing and adjustment activities, including benefit, retirement, tuition and finance-related adjustments that require entry via payroll input for one or more of the US, US Expatriate and International payrolls while maintaining a high standard of accuracy and urgency.

  • Problem solve and multi-task processes in the context of a multi-tier customer inquiry and issue resolution model, including performing research and analysis, facilitating resolutions to complex payroll inquiries, advancing as needed, and providing high quality customer service

  • Other duties as assigned

You should demonstrate:

  • Ability to demonstrate accountability and a strong commitment to meeting team objective

  • Knowledge of payroll transactional processes and related administrative activities, including relevant taxation and compliance considerations. Knowledge of Excel, including VLOOKUPS and Pivot Tables.

  • Ability to contribute to an outstanding customer-service environment, including application of tact, diplomacy, timeliness and consistency when dealing with faculty, staff and student employees

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree required

  • 1-3 years of payroll experience required

  • A combination of education and relevant experience from which comparable knowledge is demonstrated may be considered.

Additional Information:
  • Sponsorship: Applicants for this position must be currently legally authorized to work for CMU in the United States. CMU will not sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment visa for this opportunity.

  • Work Posture: This position is operating on a hybrid schedule, with an on-campus/in office presence two days a week. When on campus, our Finance Division works out of our location in Bakery Square.

  • Typical Work Schedule: Monday-Friday from 8:30-5:00pm. An alternate work schedule allowing for evening and weekend hours will be required on occasion.
