Position Summary

The Occupational Therapist provides treatment and support to consumers with intellectual and developmental disabilities or co-occurring mental health and addiction diagnosis to develop, recover and/or maintain the activities of daily living. The OT will offer effective and client-centered services that will enable consumers to confidently and independently carry out everyday tasks or activities.

Essential Duties and Functions

  • Address consumer's aspects of performance to support engagement in occupations that affect health, well-being and life quality
  • Select and adapt the appropriate per case occupational therapy treatment model, method and approach to direct the process of interventions
  • Apply interventions to maximize safety and performance in activities of daily living (ADL) and instrumental activities of daily living (IADL)
  • Teach consumers new ways of approaching tasks and educate them on how to break down activities into achievable components
  • Assess consumer's home and other environments and advise on alterations consistent with their needs and capabilities
  • Recommend adaptive equipment and train in its use as needed
  • Guide and educate family members and caregivers
  • Observe, note, and report on progress of long and short term treatment goals
  • Collect data and document processes followed

Essential Duties Addendum

Qualifications

  • Possession of an Bachelor's level degree in Occupational Therapy.
  • 3 years of clinical experience required; experience with adults with Intellectual Disabilities preferred; experience as a fieldwork educator preferred.
  • Evidence of active certification and State licensure.
  • Evaluation, treatment planning and intervention skills related to the developmentally disabled population.
  • Skills related to supervising, evaluating and educating occupational therapy fieldwork students.
  • Administrative competencies required for managing a student fieldwork program.
  • Consultation skills.
  • Knowledge of the impact of trauma on the well-being of the individuals supported within the program, as well as the impact on staff well-being, preferred.
