Overview
    Participate in pre-survey planning meetings with project team, assign and monitor work, and provide input for evaluation of members of field survey crew
  • Take responsibility for the integrity of data collected in the field and efficiency of the process of data gathering.
  • Set up, adjust, and operate surveying equipment, including electronic total station, data collector, and GPS equipment in order to measure distances, elevations, and angles
  • Gather field survey data through use of conventional and Global Positioning System (GPS) methods
  • Responsible for Data Maintenance
  • Maintain field notes and project files
  • Possess knowledge and keep up-to-date with state's boundary survey laws
  • Assume other special activities and responsibilities from time to time as assigned
  • Exercises own initiative in seeking additional work, or helping others complete their job assignments upon completion of regular work assignment
  • Continually work to sharpen skills and improve on the understanding of surveying
  • Punctual in work assignments
  • Conduct self in a professional manner in the presence of clients and co-workers
  • Meet project schedules and budgets

Supervision:

  • Assist Human Resources and Superintendent by interviewing, hiring, training, appraising work performance and addressing complaints of employees in the field
  • Directly supervise and coordinate daily activities of craft workers
  • Complete ESRs for all employees with a change in job status (transfer, laid off, terminated)
  • Conduct regular performance reviews of crewmen
  • Manage up to six or more employees and Lead men
  • Train and mentor new workers
Qualifications

Education and Work Experience Requirements:

  • A minimum of 5 years of survey experience

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

  • Take reasonable care of your own and others' health and safety and of those who may be affected by the day-to-day delivery of this role by taking personal responsibility for working toward Wanzek's Zero Injury principles
  • Read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, blueprints and procedure manuals
  • Add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals
  • Compute rate, ratio and percent
  • Rate information using standards that can be measured or checked work within precise limits or standards of accuracy, look at flat drawings, pictures and blueprints and visualize how they would look as solid objects with height, width and depth, visualize objects in three-dimensions from plans and drawings, see detail in objects or drawings and recognize slight differences in shapes or shadings
