Program Summary

RHD Glassport is a long-term structured residence (LTSR) for 12 male residents with both severe, and persistent mental illness as well as criminal justice involvement. The goal of the LTSR is to reintegrate residents back into the community and step them down to a more independent living arrangement. This reintegration occurs with the aid of structured programming while at the LTSR, medication management and education, and through the teaching of independent living skills.

Position Summary

The Nurse Manager manages the medical aspects of the program's services and provides supervision and oversight of other Registered Nurses (RNs) and Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) within a given region. A commitment to the RHD values should be demonstrated as job duties are performed.


The Nurse Manager is a daylight position (7a-3p) which includes supervisory and direct care responsibilities for all LTSR program residents. The Nurse Manager provided supervision and oversight to the nursing team, including on-call responsibilities for nursing call-offs and administrative support for medical and /or psychiatric emergencies.

Essential Duties and Functions

Supervisory

  • Responsible for the supervision of RNs and LPNs within a designated program or region.
  • Meet regularly with and provide supervision to each nursing employee to provide skill training and mentoring that supports staff development and document and address any identified needs for improvement.
  • Assists Program Director(s) in sourcing and selecting nursing staff as necessary for the effective operation of the program or region for which they are responsible.
  • Completes regular supervisory meetings and performance appraisals as needed.
  • On-call responsibilities for medical and psychiatric emergencies.
  • Interface with psychiatry team as needed for consultation for medical and/or psychiatric needs of program residents.

Administrative

  • Manage the nursing scheduling including on-call responsibilities for call-offs, no-shows and time-off requests to provide appropriate coverage as needed.
  • Develops appropriate nursing/ medical policy and procedures, as well as necessary nursing protocols to ensure the health and safety of the consumers supported.
  • Develops and improves upon daily assessment forms, nursing notes, etc as necessary and required to promote communication and quality services.
  • Performs chart audits to ensure that staff documentation is accurately reflecting the medical/ behavioral health statuses of our individuals.

Direct Care

  • Accepts and implements Doctor's orders for individuals.
  • Oversee the medical and psychiatric health needs of the individuals served by facilitating communication among members of their treatment team.
  • Assess and respond to new/potential/ ongoing health issues in persons served.
  • Provide direct care nursing services to program residents to include medical and/or psychiatric psycho-education and nursing interventions, medication administration and development of nursing treatment goals and interventions for all program residents.
  • Work collaboratively with program specialist to coordinate outside medical appointments and interface with medical providers to ensure continuity of care for all program residents.
  • All other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Current license as Registered Nurse
  • 3-5 years' experience working with individuals with co-occurring diagnosis of behavioral health and addiction disorders, homelessness, community support services, group residential facilities or similar patient populations.
  • 1-2 years' experience in a supervisor role, preferably in a clinical or community-based medical setting
  • FBI clearance, as needed
  • All trainings required by licensure
