Qualifications

Job Title: Intervention Specialist

Position Summary: The Intervention Specialist is responsible for assisting in data collection and assessment of students in order to develop and implement academic and behavior support services. The position is responsible for training staff on the use of student interventions through strategies such as coaching, collaborating and modeling. The services may also consist of group and one-on-one consultation to home, school, and community audiences.



Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Assist in the development and implementation of students', Individualized Education Programs, including positive behavioral support plans.

2. Attend student meetings and IEP meetings as assigned.

3. Support staff with data collection and assessments of students' academic, behavioral, and social skill development.

4. Support and coach staff in the identification, development, implementation, and evaluation of student interventions, including adaptions and modifications of learning resources.

5. Collaborate with staff, parents/guardians, and other service providers on specially designed instruction and accommodations for students.

6. Lead staff in the development and implementation of school-wide positive interventions and supports (PBIS).

7. Assist staff with planning for and training for the effective use of classroom aides/assistants.

8. Train crisis teams in the proper techniques to use in deescalating and managing student behaviors.

9. Lead crisis teams including the modeling and coaching on the use of appropriate techniques during crisis situations.

10. Maintain regular communication with building principal on all matters concerning the academic, behavioral, and social development of students.

11. Maintain a professional demeanor at all times, following all AIU policies, building procedures and Pennsylvania professional code of conduct.



Qualifications:

1. One of the following is required:

a) Pursuing BCBA certification with evidence of qualifying coursework and qualified supervisor secured, or

b) valid certification in Applied Behavior Analysis (BCBA) preferred

1. One of the following is required:

a) Valid PA Teacher certification in Special Education or;

b) Experience serving in a leadership position in a special education setting

c) At least three (3) years of experience working with students with a wide range of disabilities and ages in a special educational school

2. Ability to modify curriculum materials including core curriculum and alternative eligible content

3. Knowledge of educational systems, interventions, and curricula for students with complex needs/disabilities

4. Ability to use data collection strategies, data analysis and interpretation to monitor academic and behavior progress

5. Strong working knowledge of behavior management principles

6. Experience in conducting a Functional Behavior Assessment and developing Positive Behavior Intervention Plans

7. Ability to effectively present information and articulately respond to questions

8. Excellent written and oral communication skills

9. Self-motivator, independent, cooperative, flexible, creative, and responsible

10. Ability and experience working as a member of a team

11. Skilled in the use of Microsoft Office Suite including Word, PowerPoint, Access, Excel and Outlook, and willingness to experiment and work with new technologies

12. Excellent organizational skills, initiative, and an ability to work with limited supervision

13. Ability to travel throughout the County required

14. Ability to comply with the AIU Conduct policy.

Additional Requirements:

1. Current Act 114, Act 34. Act 151 required prior to an offer (Must be dated within 1 year of hire date).

2. School Personnel Health Record (Form H511.340), dated within 1 year of hire, must be completed and received by Human Resources prior to hire date.
