The Accountant, Property Accounting (Sales Tax) is responsible for managing and ensuring compliance with sales and use tax regulations. This role involves analyzing financial data, preparing monthly Sales & use/TPT tax returns, and ensuring all applicable entities are properly registered and in compliance with state and local sales tax requirements. Sales Tax Property Accountant will collaborate with various departments to ensure all sales tax is being charged to tenants and remitted to the state both timely and accurately.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Responsible for monitoring dispositions and acquisitions, as well as ensuring the appropriate registration and closure of all relevant properties with the state for Sales & Use/TPT reporting and filings.

  • Analyze financial data, sales transactions, and other relevant information to determine tax obligations and liabilities.

  • Prepare and file accurate and timely sales and use tax returns in compliance with state and local regulations.

  • Reconciliation of Sales Tax Payable liability account.

  • Work closely with internal teams to research and gather necessary data and resolve tax-related issues.

  • Coordination with billings and lease accounting team to update local and state tax rates in Yardi.

  • Communicate effectively with external tax authorities, ensuring timely responses to inquiries for all sales tax related issues and any notices received.

  • Identify opportunities for process improvements in sales tax related workflows and contribute to the implementation of best practices.

  • Stay updated on changes in tax laws and regulations to ensure ongoing compliance.

  • Willingness to take on additional projects necessary with the continuous growth and development of the company.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • BA/BS required, Accounting or Finance degree preferred.

  • 2+ years' experience, real estate experience preferred.

  • Proven experience in sales and use tax compliance preferred.

  • Detail oriented, analytical, strong organizational skills, proven ability to meet deadlines, works well under pressure and possess the ability to manage time efficiently and prioritize effectively.

  • Advanced Microsoft Excel Skills.

  • Experience with Yardi a plus.
