Responsibilities

A Credit Underwriter 2 is responsible for spreading mid to complex financial statements in compliance with Bank standards; preparing Credit Offering Memorandums on mid to complex borrowers in concert with Commercial Lenders for consideration of commercial loan approval; compilation of the borrower's total bank relationship; managing personal workload to ensure completion of assignments within prescribed timelines, making recommendations to Commercial Lenders as to appropriate risk ratings and address of loan policy exceptions, structural weaknesses, appraisal exceptions and environmental waivers; preparing semi-annual reports on trends within industries in which the bank may have potential credit concentrations; and providing guidance and on-the-job training to Credit Underwriter 1s.

  • Prepares financial spreadsheets on existing or potential borrowers using accountant-prepared or company-prepared financial statements, tax returns, budgets and/or projections.
  • Gathers all additional credit information, environmental reports, etc. as required by the structure of the credit request.
  • Prepares Credit Offering Memorandums on mid to complex borrowers, which includes a description of the credit request and all associated structural components; a detail of the borrower's Bank relationship (loans, deposits, cash management, RDC, etc.); corporate historical / projected and personal financial statement and cash flow analysis; detailed collateral evaluation and OCC stress testing on commercial real estate projects; identification of loan policy exceptions and regulatory structural weaknesses; and assessment of appropriate risk rating.
  • Makes recommendations to commercial Lender as to appropriate risk rating and/or changes to the structural elements of the borrower's loan request to eliminate loan policy exceptions or regulatory structural weaknesses.
  • Advises the Commercial Lender of appraisal or environmental requirements that must be approved by the Chief Credit Administrator prior to the loan proposal's submission for approval.
  • Accompanies Commercial Lenders on customer informational calls, as requested.
  • Coordinates the completion of credit assignments with Commercial Lenders and Credit Supervisors/Managers to ensure customer needs are being addressed in a timely manner.
  • Provides basic on-the-job training and technical guidance to Credit Underwriter 1s.
  • As an integral member of the Credit Administration Department, this position is also responsible to provide assistance wherever necessary to help the Credit Administration Department and the Bank in achieving their annual goals.
  • Maintain proficient knowledge of, and demonstrate ongoing compliance with all laws and regulations applicable to this position, ensure ongoing adherence to pertinent policies, procedures, and internal controls, and meet all job-specific training requirements in a timely fashion.

Qualifications

  • B.S. or B.A. degree in a business related field of study (finance, management, economics, accounting) with at least 6 credits in accounting.
  • Specialized financial analysis training.
  • Proficient reading, writing, grammar, and mathematics skills.
  • Proficient interpersonal and communication skills (both verbal and written).
  • A thorough knowledge of current lending and banking regulations, loan policies, and procedures.
  • Proven ability to analyze and interpret financial statements and information.
  • Moderate loan structuring skills.
  • Technical supervisory skills sufficient to provide guidance and training to Credit Underwriter 1s.
  • Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and all other departmental computer programs.
    Minimum of two (2) years experience as a Credit Underwriter 1 normally required.

Hours: 40 hours/week
