Job Description
Position Summary
Under the direction of the Chief Financial Officer, maintains an integrated, centralized, and accurate financial recordkeeping system including reporting, banking, and payroll to provide effective control and reporting of company financial data. Provides support for the company in directing budget and cost controls, financial analysis, and accounting procedures. Leads an assessment of existing and proposed financial plans and policies. Participates in developing changes to ensure that the organization achieves financial targets. Maintains a positive work atmosphere by performing and communicating in a manner that gets along with members, clients, co-workers, and supervisors.

Handles accounting functions and preparation of reports and statistics detailing financial results. Coordinates schedules, activities, and reports with other departments. Establishes and maintains operating procedures.
• Accountable for accurate data entry, bookkeeping, journal entry, financial statement preparation and verification of information for all Food Export - Northeast accounts and funds
• Calculating and verifying all transactions and journal entries, posting and balancing general ledger and reconciling general ledger accounts.
• Compute and prepare financial reports and analyses as required by Board of Trustees, CFO, Executive Director and Program Managers.
• Accountable for accuracy in accounts payables, accounts receivables, and wire transfers.
• Monitors cash requirements and submits reimbursement claims to the Foreign Agricultural Service (FAS) as supporting documentation warrants. Ensures that Food Export - Northeast and FAS records agree.
• Organizes and maintains effective filing systems for financial records for operating and program funds.
• Accountable for accurate and timely tax payments and payroll processing.
• Responds to inquiries from vendors and activity managers, FAS regarding payments, budgets and financial information for specific activities.
• Prepares and maintains current Accounting Procedures Manual.
• Reviews and approves bank reconciliations.
• Coordinates the search for new vendors and prepares a competitive analysis for management
• Provides necessary financial records as requested by auditors.
• Prepares all necessary documentation to support information that is requested.
• Answers any questions by auditors relative to Food Export - Northeast's activities or financial records.
• Assists CFO in the preparation of reports and materials for the Food Export- Northeast Board of Directors meetings.


Requirements
Requires a complete understanding of all generally accepted accounting principles, including fund accounting, and all internal control practices and their practical implementation. Understands and is able to complete all required journal entries, posting, financial statement and subsidiary report preparation and review to ensure accuracy and balance. Understands and is able to complete budget preparation and analysis. An understanding of and experience with operating Abila MIP Fund Accounting (MIP) fund accounting software program, Microsoft Dynamics CRN and the Office 360 Office suite, the USDA Market Access Program, USDA/Foreign Agricultural Service policies and procedures, and how they affect all Food Export - Northeast's financial activities is strongly desired.
Requires complete attention to detail, organization, and administrative skills; requires ability to operate a personal computer, including Microsoft Office 365 and the Adobe Acrobat Suite. Must be able to prepare oral and written reports in a professional and concise manner and be able to communicate effectively.

Requires completion of a bachelor's degree in accounting or closely related field and a minimum of 5 years' work experience, in areas of fund accounting, non-profit accounting and government program administration, or closely related field. Advanced degree / CPA is strongly preferred. Previous experience in a supervisory role is a plus.

Discretion and Accountability
This is a management-level, exempt position, and therefore is afforded wide professional latitude in completing work. The employee is expected to develop goals and objectives to meet the broad goals as established. It is the employee's responsibility to draft work priorities that will accomplish the goals and objectives in an effective and efficient manner. The employee needs to set the stage and targets for where a program or project should be at a specific time. The position will report to the Chief Financial Officer.

Unusual Physical Demands
Work is performed in a standard office environment. This position requires light duty physical work, conducting general office duties, occasional participation in trade shows or market promotions. Requirements include carrying multiple files and printed materials, with domestic travel between one and three weeks per year. There may be an opportunity for international travel.

The incumbent must have or be able to obtain a valid U.S. passport or hold a valid visa or other legal U.S. immigration or residency status to allow work in the U.S. and travel.
