Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

Education:

Bachelorrsquo;s Degree required; Masterrsquo;s degree required

Experience:

3-5 years working as an academic advisor, and experience working with faculty advising model

Competencies (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required):

Experience in higher education required. Knowledge of transfer credit evaluation, college transcripts, AP credit and IB credit awarding. Experience working as an academic advisor and experience working with Degreeworks, Banner, Starfish and Canvas preferred.

Job Summary:The Assistant Director for First Year Advising and Retention will support first-year students as the primary representative of the Academic Success Center (ASC) throughout all first year advising initiatives. Primary responsibilities include: oversight of the ASC First Year Faculty Advising team; new student onboarding; and ASC representation at university events. The assistant director will participate and represent the ASC on university-wide initiatives as well as provide dedicated retention support to colleges and ldquo;At Risk and Probationrdquo; students.

Essential Functions

  • Interacts with co-workers, visitors, and other staff consistent with the values of Jefferson.
  • Performs first year advising, including navigating academic issues, course planning, and goal setting for all first- year students while providing advising support for the First Year Faculty Advising Team.
  • Oversight of onboarding process for of all new East Falls campus incoming first year and transfer students. Responsibilities include colloborating with the Registrarrsquo;s on placement, block scheduling, data reporting, and academic currciulum review.
  • Confirm arrival and verify all AP and dual college credit for new first year students, including schedule changes.
  • Provide training, support and oversight to First Year Faculty Advisors, including policy and procedure review.
  • Oversee administrative functions including advisor assignments, and advising material updates to include Advising Playbook, NSO materials, and advising polices and procedures.
  • Enhance and maintain working relationships with University Partners. Serve as primary resource for working relationships with college and administrative office representatives.
  • Coordinate and Participate in all Academic Success Center events including New Student Orientation, Rams Resource Fair, FYS Class Presentations.
  • In the summer, serve as primary advisor to rising first year students during transition to college advisors.
  • Track outstanding transcripts and AP score reports for all new students who identify as expecting transfer credit.
  • Serve as primary contact for all parent and guardian communcations related to First Year Students.
  • Work as a collaborative member of the Academic Success Center team in student retention and success.
  • Follow up on all Starfish and Degreeworks updates as needed.
  • Build on retention initiatives and retention of all students with primary focus on ldquo;At Risk and Probationrdquo; Students.
