THE POSITION

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation's Bureau of Operations is seeking a student intern to assist the Highway Safety and Traffic Operations Division with crash analysis.

DESCRIPTION OF WORK

In this position, you will be responsible for analyzing crash data, which encompasses data from wrong-way crashes, cross-median crashes, and vulnerable road users (VRU) like pedestrians, cyclists, motorcycles, and more. Additionally, you will also review assessments of low-cost safety improvement projects and analyze right turn on red (RTOR) projects.

This internship will allow you to develop your technical skills, apply classroom knowledge to real-world projects, and work alongside engineering professionals who are passionate about innovation and excellence.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Work hours are 8:00 am to 4:00 pm, Monday - Friday, with 30-minute lunch.
  • Compensation is credit based:
    • Less than 90 credits - $20.35
    • Over 90 credits - $21.22

  • REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

    QUALIFICATIONS
    Students who are interested in a PennDOT internship must meet all of the following requirements:

    • Must be a high school graduate or college student enrolled (or intending to enroll) on a full-time or part-time basis in a 2- or 4- year post-secondary education program for the fall semester.
    • Enrolled part or full-time for the next semester by the start of the internship in an applicable major.
    • In good academic standing (as defined by a GPA of 2.0 or higher).
    • Must be at least 18 years of age
    • Special Requirement: Certain positions require a valid Pennsylvania Class C Driver's License.

    Additional Requirements:
    • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

    Preferred Majors:
    • Engineering or a closely related engineering discipline.
