The primary function of the Staff Perfusionist is the safe operation and management of extracorporeal circulation equipment (heart/lung machine, veno-venous bypass, ventricular assist devices, extra-corporeal membrane oxygenation) during any medical or surgical procedure where it is necessary to support or replace the patientrsquo;s cardiopulmonary/circulatory function (open-heart surgery, liver transplantation, etc.).
