Job Description

The Senior Vice President, Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion provides the strategic leadership to build and sustain an environment of inclusion, trust, and cultural competency across the Jefferson Enterprise, including each functional unit - Jefferson Health System, Thomas Jefferson University, Jefferson Health Plans, as well as to the communities they serve. The SVP, DEI, executes Jeffersonrsquo;s DEI strategy through collaboration across all levels of leadership, faculty, physicians, staff, and students to measure and achieve enterprise DEI goals and to lead and champion health equity and an inclusive environment by developing education and programs to drive awareness.

Major Responsibilities

  • Leads the Enterprise Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion team by identifying and developing the strategic Enterprise DEI goals; builds and maintains strong, lasting, trusted advisor relationships with senior executives to deliver insights and drive engagement and commitment; holds senior leadership across Jefferson Health Thomas Jefferson University and Jefferson Health Plans accountable to DEI performance measures and goals.
  • Evaluates, develops, builds and leads an inclusive education and awareness strategy at all levels designed to create a seamless experience across Jefferson for patients, students, and staff. Continually assesses existing systems and tools to ensure alignment of Jeffersonrsquo;s diversity message; implements diversity and inclusion education in partnership with Learning amp; Development for all levels of the organization.
  • Serves as a member of the Senior Leadership team and promotes strategic planning with functional leadership within the health system, health plan, and University to ensure Jefferson is holistically and effectively addressing DEI at an enterprise level; consults and partners with Enterprise departments to ensure connection and engagement across the system, including recruitment, physician education, and employee and student relations.
  • Leads transformational change through the establishment of integrated Diversity, Equity amp; Inclusion (DEI) Councils within all functional units to ensure the establishment of effective teams that are aligned to the Enterprise; leads the process of recruiting and mentoring enterprise-led council members while aligning with the overall Jefferson culture and strategy around DEI.
  • Serves as a principal liaison with external stakeholders, such as diverse suppliers, to create an environment of economic inclusion, community partnerships, and community engagement; demonstrates the importance of partnering with local minority-owned vendors and the community for the economic health of Jeffersonrsquo;s footprint communities.
  • Serves on boards and local committees and advocates for inclusive access to Jefferson by all members of its community.

Education:

Masterrsquo;s degree required; MBA recommended to provide a background in research and knowledge of corporate culture.

Experience:

10 years of leadership experience preferably in healthcare or an academic medical system interfacing with a variety of leadership roles

Experience working in higher education with Deans in a complex university matrix and supporting an undergraduate student population is highly recommended.

Public speaking experience and background and comfort interfacing with different media (press, podcast, live, panel, or moderator) are preferred; experience presenting to high-level executive leadership or a Board of Directors is beneficial.

Strong mediator skills (effective listening, agility, resilience, ability to strategically think at a global level) to represent Jefferson in and outside of the organization.
