Description

Conemaugh Nason Medical Center is seeking a full-time Certified Surgical Technician for our Operating Room. The Surgical Tech facilitates the operative or other invasive procedure by preparing and providing the required sterile instruments, supplies and equipment. Maintains the sterile field and anticipates and responds to the needs of the surgical team.

Qualifications

Essential Functions:

Assemble supplies and equipment for the procedure.

Prepare and organize sterile supplies and instruments for the procedure.

Perform accounting procedures in concert with the RN circulator.

Assist with placement of sterile drapes.

Provide instruments and supplies to the surgical team during the procedure.

Maintain an organized sterile field. Ensure sterility of the field and take corrective actions as needed.

Prepare sterile dressing.

Label and provide medications/fluids as per policy/procedure.

Anticipate need for supplies and ask for them to be brought to room.

Protect patient from injury related to improper equipment use or handling (Ie. Electrode placement in holster after each use, etc.)

Clean and prepare surgical instruments for processing and transport them to the decontamination areas.

Assist with post-procedure cleaning of the operative or other invasive procedure room and preparation of room for subsequent patients.

Assess set up and supplies to make sure you have everything you need from the start of the procedure.

Abides by and references the Employee Handbook and other pertinent facility policies, including clinical, non-clinical, safety, and infection control.

Job Requirements:

Education

Graduate of a Program in Surgical Technology required.

Required Skills:

Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision.

Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.

Working irregular hours including call hours.

Must live in a 1-hour radius of hospital for Call-in availability.

Computer skills.

Required Licenses:

CST certification required for current employees hired after October 29,2020 or practiced surgical technology as their primary function in another healthcare facility at any time during the two-years prior to October 29, 2020.

Basic Life Support (BLS) within 6-months of hire.
