SUMMARY

*SIGN-ON BONUS ELIGIBLE*

Must be licensed and admitted to practice law in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania or the intention to sit for the next available Pennsylvania Bar Exam.

The Montgomery County Public Defender's Office has a unique opportunity available for an attorney looking to serve indigent clients and work in public service, without handling a traditional trial case load.

The Staff Attorney in the Violations Unit will handle a wide array of cases, ranging from DUIs and drug possession to serious violent felonies.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Represent clients in detention hearings;
  • Represent clients in probation and parole violation hearings;
  • Advise and represent clients in extradition hearings;
  • Represent clients in preliminary hearings throughout Montgomery County;
  • Handle miscellaneous court and other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

To be successful in this role, an individual must be able to accomplish each of the essential duties satisfactorily. Necessary abilities, skills and knowledge are outlined below.   • Admission to Bar of Supreme Court of Pennsylvania;
  • Juris Doctor Degree;
  • Knowledge of the criminal justice system and some courtroom experience (moot court and mock trial will be considered as well);
  • Must be able to work under pressure and multitask;
  • Must have reliable transportation;
  • Comfortable using Microsoft Office and database programs;
  • Fluency in Spanish preferred, but not required.
