What you'll do:

A Certified Weld Inspector is responsible for examining and assessing welded components, structures, or products to ensure they meet specified quality and safety standards. This role involves inspecting welds, verifying compliance with welding procedures, and providing documentation to certify the quality of welds.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform visual, non-destructive testing (NDT), and destructive testing to assess the quality and integrity of welds.
  • Review welding procedure specifications, plans, and blueprints to ensure that welding is performed in accordance with the specified standards and codes.
  • Monitor and evaluate the entire welding process, including material selection, preparation, fit-up, and post-weld inspections.
  • Conduct NDT methods such as radiography, ultrasonic testing, magnetic particle testing, and dye penetrant testing to identify weld defects.
  • Oversee destructive testing procedures like tensile tests, bend tests, and impact tests to validate the quality of welds.
  • Ensure that welding processes and products conform to relevant industry codes and standards, such as AWS (American
  • Welding Society) or ASME (American Society of Mechanical Engineers).
    Identify and analyze defects in welds and recommend corrective actions to meet quality standards.
  • Issue certificates or reports confirming that welds meet specified requirements and standards.
  • Maintain detailed records of inspections, tests, and certifications to document compliance and provide traceability.
  • Collaborate with welders, engineers, and other stakeholders to address issues and ensure compliance with quality standards.
  • Promote and enforce safety protocols and practices during welding and inspection activities.

What you need to be successful:

HS Diploma or GED required

  • Hold a Certified Weld Inspector (CWI)
  • AWS Certification
  • Excellent attendance
  • Positive attitude
  • Strong and consistent attention to detail
  • Self-motivated with the ability to stay on task
  • Team oriented
  • Basic computer skills are required
  • Must be able to pass required welding certification test in the following AWS material sections: D1.1, D1.2, D1.3, D1.6, and D9.1.
  • Previous experience and/or certifications preferred
  • Must understand AWS welding symbols
  • Must be able to set up, adjust, and maintain welding machines
  • Must be able toMig or Tig weld steel, stainless, and aluminum as needed

Willing to:

  • Learn and rotate within various weld areas
  • Wear PPE respirators for extended amount of time
  • Improve self / area / company (including pursuing additional training, if needed)
  • Develop a working knowledge of company's systems (example: AS/400)

Able to:

  • Read and comprehend blueprints including weld specifications at a high level
  • Work overtime on short notice
