Community Programs Coordinator

AmeriCorps National members serve the community in direct service and capacity building activities.

What will you do?

The Community Program Coordinator plays a critical role in strengthening programs and relationships through planning, coordinating and implementing projects for, and in partnership with, the community. These efforts in program and strategic relationship-building with residents, local organizations, elected officials and stakeholders help Habitat and others identify areas where housing and community development solutions can intersect with identified needs. The role will specifically offer support to existing programs within Habitat MontDelco and expand the reach of our messaging and relationship-building efforts, with the opportunity to help develop additional supportive programs and programming components on an as needed basis.

Service activities:

  • Build and maintain relationships with community residents, local organizations, elected officials and stakeholders.
  • Assist in developing community improvement projects and assist the department with implementing them from planning through completion.
  • Develop and sustain data tracking tools which will support the expansion of programming as well as to strengthen overall program advocacy and messaging in the community.
  • Provide ongoing support to the operations of our Home Purchase, Financial Empowerment, Neighborhood Revitalization and Home Repair Programming.

This position will focus on homeowner services, mortgage services, neighborhood revitalization, research, monitoring, and evaluation, and virtual/digital systems and platforms aspects of Habitat affiliate operations.

  • Activities and attractions: We are close to many great trails, state parks and creeks as well as historical sites like the constitution center, old city in Philadelphia, and Valley Forge Battlefield Museum. We are also close to the King of Prussia mall, Flight 93 911 memorial, Legoland Philadelphia, The Philadelphia Zoo, the Franklin Institute, the Academy of National Science, and Eastern State Penitentiary.
  • Unique projects: We are working on developing new volunteer initiatives and activities, we are working on building homes with 'Aging in place' and accessibility in mind, we are looking into condo-style living situations, we are developing databases of partners hosting a ReStore truck event day for nearby residents to donate, with tabling events hosted by the volunteer program.

Minimum Requirements

Applicants must be a U.S. citizen, national or lawful permanent resident at least 18 or older and have a high school diploma or GED.

Pursuant to current Habitat for Humanity policy, this position requires full vaccination against COVID-19, except to the extent such requirement is prohibited by applicable law.

  • Knowledge of and willingness to promote the mission and activities of Habitat for Humanity of Montgomery and Delaware Counties, Habitat for Humanity International and AmeriCorps.
  • Ability to work with racially, culturally and socioeconomically diverse people.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong research and planning skills.
  • Detail oriented, highly organized, and flexible.
  • Experience working with volunteers, instructing individuals, or facilitating groups.
  • Experience working as a member of a team and as an individual.
  • Knowledge of community development practices OR willingness to learn.
  • Basic experience with Microsoft Office Suite, especially Word and Excel.

Physical requirements:

  • Ability to sit at a desk and computer for extended periods of time.
  • About 30% of this position requires outreach in the community, including visiting buildings and homes that may have stairs, as well as occasionally serving on project sites that may have uneven terrain.
