Job Description

PRIMARY FUNCTION:

The roles of platelet microvesicles and microRNAs in thrombo-inflammation

A Postdoctoral fellow position is available for candidates to contribute to characterize the roles and mechanisms of platelet-derived extracellular vesicles and platelet microRNAs, in platelet-leukocyte interactions and immune responses in inflammatory settings of high clinical relevance. Approaches will include various ex vivo analysis of blood cell functions, cell biological studies of blood cell response, and in vivo models of thrombosis and inflammation. The candidate must have experience with molecular and cellular biology. A background in genetics, benign hematology/blood physiology, and experience with working with animal models will be viewed favorably. This position provides an excellent opportunity to grow scientifically and work with a dynamic group of investigators studying important and exciting aspects of vascular thrombosis and thrombo-inflammation.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Handling human blood and platelets
  • Experience with western blotting and traditional cell and molecular biology techniques
  • An understanding of biochemistry and pharmacology
  • Ability to learn new biochemical and physiological techniques
  • Ability to work independently
  • Participate in supervision of graduate students
  • Ability to present work at national meetings, prepare manuscripts for submission
  • Minimum 2 to 3 year commitment
  • Interacts with co-workers, visitors, and other staff consistent with the core values of the University.

Applicant should have a PhD or MD in biology, molecular biology, cell biology, physiology, biochemistry, vascular biology, or a relevant discipline, and demonstrated expertise evidenced by a strong publication record. Applicants with an MD with relevant research experience and a strong interest in basic and translational research will also be considered.
