What you will be doing

This position is 100% on-site at Reading Hospital, located in West Reading, Pennsylvania. Typical work hours are Monday to Friday between 0800-1700, with infrequent work on weekends and holidays. This is a full-time, 40-hour a week position. The pharmacy is open 365 days per year including all holidays.

This is a Specialty Pharmacy Navigator Technician position, with a focus in hematology oncology. This role involves direct patient care and collaboration with other healthcare providers. A strong foundation of retail pharmacy operations and prescription processing is essential to succeed in this role.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the logistics, organization, and collaboration required for optimal pharmacy dispensing of medications with an emphasis on specialty medications
  • Intake, filling and prescription resolution and point-of-sale processes
  • Insurance benefit investigation and management of prior authorizations
  • Ensure prescriptions flow through ambulatory pharmacy and are identified by pharmacy staff
  • Answers inbound telephone calls and triages calls appropriately based on nature of call
  • Triage prescriptions which are limited distribution drugs or out-of-network
  • Provide financial navigation services when necessary, including foundation assistance, patient assistance programs, and state-funded programs
  • Responsible for tracking, managing and facilitating delivery of medications to patients
  • Assists in developing follow-up plans to enhance patient adherence to therapy
  • Demonstrates ability to navigate various platforms including EMR and specialty therapy management platform

What your background should look like:

  • Two (2) years of pharmacy experience, either in an outpatient ambulatory setting or retail pharmacy
  • Pharmacy technician certification with a national technical certification organization, such as Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) or other comparable national certification or comparable state certification is strongly preferred
  • Previous experience in specialty pharmacy and/or ambulatory pharmacy is highly desirable
  • Experience with 340B purchasing programs is desirable

Minimum Skills, Knowledge and Ability Requirements:

  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Experience in Epic or similar EMR platforms is highly desirable
  • Ability to work quickly and accurately under time and volume constraints
  • Excellent analytical skills and time management
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent collaboration and teamwork skills
  • Ability to resolve patient issues quickly and creatively to improve patient satisfaction
