Job Description
Position Summary:  Serves as the chief technical authority regarding electrical engineering aspects of products (both proprietary and customer) and services, and provide functional leadership and guidance for the electrical engineering group.  
 
Key Functions:
  1. Ensure electrical designs meet all requirements, specifications, and customer’s expectations.
  2. Consistently apply sound, comprehensive engineering fundamentals, and advanced electrical/electronic design, simulation, and analysis engineering tools to develop cost-effective, successful products and practical solutions.
  3. Lead problem resolution and technical risk management.
  4. Manage electrical engineering tasks and supervises electrical engineers, designers, and technicians to achieve those tasks.
  5. Responsible for hiring, staffing, and handling all personnel issues. Trains and develops direct reports. Provides feedback and formal performance and coaching reviews. 
  6. Provide work direction and guidance to staff to assure completion of assigned tasks and other duties.
  7. Develop and manage training and mentorship for electrical engineers, designers, and technicians.
  8. Develop job descriptions and requisitions, ensuring the team has the right amount and balance of labor and skill sets.
  9. Define standard work products and establish the standard of quality for their production.
  10. Develop and interpret department policy and procedures.
 
Position Responsibilities:
  • Secure the design and development of high-performance, very high-reliability, electronic and electro-mechanical products to withstand harsh and severe environments for an exacting customer base.
  • Develop concepts and designs for new products, assemblies, or parts to support current projects.  Review and approve detailed part, assembly, and specification drawings, and BOMs.
  • Support various departments (program management, procurement, operations, manufacturing engineering, quality engineering, test, production, and business development).
  • Manage technical staff of electrical engineering professionals, fostering individual growth and the overall productivity of the group.
  • Administer the group by assigning tasks and projects, balancing workload and talent, determining staffing and skills requirements, establishing budgets, and conducting formal reviews.  Interview and evaluate potential candidates for electrical engineering.
  • Guide and assist junior and senior engineers in a mentoring/consulting capacity.
  • Create innovative ideas in support of internal research and development.
  • Generate and implement improvements in product design and assembly efficiency.
  • Interface directly with customers and suppliers to support technical issues.
  • Research and apply mechanical engineering principles and theories to solve customer problems.
  • Support full program life cycles (concept, specification, prototype, production, & sustainment).
  • Generate technical reports, white papers, analyses, and presentations to support on-going programs and proposals.
  • Remain current with professional development and continuing education via Webinars, short courses, conferences, and online or off-site coursework.
  • Perform other functions as needed to support the company’s goals.
 
Essential Skills and Experience
  •  Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent in Electrical or Computer Engineering.
  • Knowledge of product development and definition engineering tools and procedures, with a minimum of 10 years of experience including bringing new products into production.
  • Experienced in circuit simulation and analysis.  Broad-based knowledge of electronics design.
  • Proven innovative skills through new product/process development projects.
  • Demonstrated people-management skills, leadership skills, and focus on employee development.
  • Strong team player with clear ability to lead people in high-performance teams, including conflict resolution.
  • Knowledgeable of industry and military specifications for military electronic products.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills.
  • The ability to organize and manage multiple priorities.
  •  Computer proficiency (Microsoft Office suite and CAE tools). 
  • Accustomed to laboratory, shop floor, field, and boardroom environments.
  • US citizen required per gov't contracts
