Company Overview
The Zimmerman Design Group is one of the oldest and most successful architectural firms in Wisconsin. Founded in 1906 by Peter Brust, the firm’s early portfolio included churches, schools, convents, sanitariums, offices, stores and residences, with the M&I Bank, Schusters Stores, the Kohler Company complex and Governor Kohler’s home being the firm’s most prominent projects. In 1973 the firm incorporated, and by 1981 the firm had doubled in size. President Gary Zimmerman’s private sector experience brought commercial and corporate clientele to compliment the firm’s notable education, governmental, health care, institutional, recreational and residential portfolio.

In 1981 the firm changes its name to the Zimmerman Design Group. The name emphasized the firm’s focus on design excellence through a team of top quality professionals. The firm’s modest profile expanded statewide and regionally with a multitude of design awards and professional recognition. ZDG has garnered more than 120 professional, industry and community awards.

In addition, the firm’s comprehensive services grew to include complete engineering, planning and landscape design. The firm ranks among the top four architectural firms in Milwaukee, according to The Business Journal, in each of the last ten years.

Sustainable design, energy conservation, an increasing demand for greater cost control, new component technology and construction methodology are key challenges facing the architectural profession. ZDG continually strives to meet these needs while developing highly creative and functional design solutions.
