College of Letters and Sciences The College of Letters and Sciences is the largest and most diverse of UWM's schools and colleges.We have 21 departments, many ranked among the top in the country. School of Continuing Education The UWM School of Continuing Education extends the resources of the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee to the people, agencies, businesses and governments of our local and global communities through education, partnerships and applied research. With 1500 noncredit, select credit and certificate programs offered, we annually attract over 35,000 participants of all ages who seek high-quality professional development and personal growth opportunities lead by knowledgeable and experienced instructors. Continuing Education in Milwaukee derives its unique strength from the "Wisconsin Idea" - the conviction that the University has a mission to put the knowledge and innovation it nurtures directly into the hands of the people of the state. We do this through a combination of applied research, teaching, and community service.

School of Allied Health Professions The UWM School of Allied Health Professions is known widely for its innovative and excellent teaching, superb research programs and service to the community and professions. Our School contains the largest collection of health related degree programs in Wisconsin and surrounding area, with twelve degree programs, in addition to a number of submajors and certificate programs. The various health related programs provide flexibility to accommodate learning needs for the traditional as well as the nontraditional student, by offering adult access evening degree programs and internet web-based instruction. We are excited about the establishment of two new Centers in the School: the Center for Rehabilitation Sciences and Technology and the Center for Forensic Science. Both of these centers will enhance education and research opportunities as well as provide collaborations within the community. All of our programs are affiliated with medical centers and health care institutions throughout Milwaukee, Wisconsin and nationwide. In addition, The School of Allied Health Professions operates clinics where faculty and students interact with patients in an educational setting.

Peck School of the Arts As the only school of the arts in the University of Wisconsin system, we enroll over 1,300 students each year in some of the most exciting and innovative programs imaginable. Visual Art, Dance, Film, Music and Theatre are all represented in the school, which enriches the cultural climate of our city and state not only through the activities of our graduates, but through the hundreds of highly professional performances and exhibitions they produce each year.

School of Education The mission of the UWM School of Education is to contribute to the improvement of education in a multicultural, urban society. Besides traditional approaches to teacher education, the School of Education works closely with the Milwaukee Public Schools to increase the diversity of the teaching force and to help certify teachers in hard-to-fill positions such as special education, bilingual education, early childhood education, mathematics and science.

College of Engineering & Applied Science In 1971 the college's name was changed to the current "College of Engineering and Applied Science" and a separate thirteen-story Engineering and Mathematical Sciences Building (EMS) was constructed. Located on the western edge of the UWM campus, the EMS building houses facilities for both research and instruction, with modern equipment occupying over 75,000 square feet of laboratory space. The College's mission has three broad charges - to develop vigorous programs of teaching, to establish significant research programs, and to work closely with industry and the community. In order to carry out this mission, the College has developed interdisciplinary programs at both the graduate and undergraduate levels. Thus, a student receives not only an excellent education in the major field, but also a broad background in engineering fundamentals.

Graduate School One of two doctoral degree-granting institutions in the University of Wisconsin System, UWM has earned the highest ranking possible from the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools, and is classified as an extensive doctoral/research university by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching. The Graduate School offers a wide range of graduate studies in its 48 master's and 17 doctoral degree programs. There are traditional fields of study, as well as innovative professional and interdisciplinary programs, and most can be pursued on a full-time or part-time basis. To accommodate schedules of working students, late afternoon and evening courses are offered. Some program units also schedule weekend courses.

School of Nursing Since its origin in 1965, the school has been dedicated to providing academic programs of the highest quality that are at the forefront of nursing. The programs are nationally ranked and the faculty have been widely recognized for achievements and innovations. Bachelor of Science in Nursing Master of Science, and Doctor of Philosophy degrees in Nursing are available through programs that provide a solid academic foundation for nursing in a variety of settings. In addition to the pursuit of knowledge, the UWM School of Nursing creates an environment that also values and supports personal growth.

School of Social Welfare The School of Social Welfare offers programs to students about social policies and programs, and trains them for beginning level practice in a variety of professional roles in social work and criminal justice. Its location in metropolitan Milwaukee gives students numerous opportunities to gain practical experience in social, health, educational, or criminal justice agencies. Undergraduate majors in either Social Work or Criminal Justice lead to the Bachelor of Science, and are designed to prepare students for available beginning level positions in their respective fields. These programs provide excellent preparation for graduate work.

Division of Administrative Affairs The mission of the Division of Administrative Affairs is to provide support to the instructional, research and public service missions of the University by providing the best possible level of service to the campus consistent with the available resources. This support is provided by the following departments:

Each department has made a primary commitment to serve and support the University within the rules and regulations adopted by the federal government, state government, Board of Regents, University of Wisconsin System Administration, as well as the administrative rules adopted by the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.

Information & Media Technologies The Information & Media Technology Division provides the technologies and media that support the academic, research and administrative missions of the UW-Milwaukee. More than 130 professional staff provide services spanning network communications, telecommunications, computing, media services, printing and photocopying, television production, cable and satellite programming, graphic arts, photography, Web design, data administration, and large software system development and maintenance. I&MT's professional staff work in concert with more than 250 student employees who are part of Student Technology Services (STS). STS is an independent and student-managed department within I&MT.

The Division of Student & Multicultural Affairs The Division of Student and Multicultural Affairs support the educational mission of the University in three ways: First, they have primary responsibility for identifying, recruiting, and enrolling a student body which is appropriate to the University's academic programs and which reflects the diversity of the metropolitan community. Second, they play a key role in academic retention by providing an array of programs and services which orient students to campus life, facilitate their registration and progress to graduation, offer them career guidance and financial aid, and provide them with the medical, personal, and social support they may need to continue successfully in school. Finally, divisional units help to establish a wholesome learning environment on campus by providing students with the opportunities to expand their aesthetic, cultural and social lives and to engage in recreational and athletic activities.
