THE POSITION

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation is looking for non-engineering college students for employment during the summer months for the 2024 Summer Employment Program! This internship will allow you to develop your technical skills, apply classroom knowledge to real-world projects, and work alongside professionals who are passionate about innovation and excellence.  If you enjoy working in an active, fast-paced environment while performing a public service, check out this opportunity and apply today!    




DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This is an internship in the PennDOT Communications Office. As a Press Office Intern, you will assist in researching, compiling, and preparing information releases to keep the public informed about our agency's mission and activities. In addition to print work, you will assist with digital media work, which includes transcribing videos, as well as recording content for audio, video, and graphic purposes. You will also be responsible for converting press releases into blog posts and associated social media content.

Internship opportunities associated with this posting will be for Engineering District 4 which consists of Lackawanna, Luzerne, Pike, Susquehanna, Wayne, and Wyoming Counties.    

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Some positions may require travel.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Students who are interested in a PennDOT internship must meet all of the following requirements:  

  • Must be a high school graduate or college student enrolled (or intending to enroll) on a full-time or part-time basis in a 2- or 4- year post-secondary education program for the fall semester.

    • Public Relations
    • Marketing
  • Must be in good academic standing (as defined by a GPA of 2.0 or higher)
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.


Condition of Employment:

  • Upon verification of a valid Pennsylvania Class C Driver's License without incident, some positions may be authorized to operate Department vehicles as part of this job.


Additional Requirements:

  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
