This position primarily involves a hybrid work schedule - working remotely: Monday & Friday / on site: Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for effectively processing all insurance applications, evaluating individual consumer information to assess risk for life and disability coverage amounts
  • Responsible for determining the appropriate level of requirements documentation necessary to evaluate individual risk and remain within New York Life guidelines
  • Continual commitment for personal and professional development to include classroom, self-study, and on-the job training.
  • Understands and communicates the products we sell, risk selection methodology, and effectively applies this understanding to the individual risk assessment
  • Complete all necessary training and effectively demonstrates thorough understanding of:
    • The tools and systems used
    • Product knowledge
    • Sales and Administration process
    • End-to-end enrollment and underwriting processes
  • Knowledge, understanding and interpretation of paramedical exams, lab results, attending physician statements, pharmacy prescription history and consumer medical information
  • Compliance and legal requirements of medical underwriting
  • Work in a team environment and self-manages own queue/caseload within company time, accuracy, and quality standards

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree strongly preferred
  • Knowledge in medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and medical conditions a plus
  • Prior medical underwriting, life claims or disability claims experience a plus
  • Ability to manage and maintain production of an underwriting caseload
  • Ability to manage and maintain quality performance within department standards
  • Ability to work well under pressure
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the commitment to work successfully in a service- oriented team environment
