Position Summary: This position envisions cross-discipline product development and manages the systems engineering function. Directly participates in the development of systems engineering work products for the organization. The systems engineering manager has authority for systems engineering from initial design through testing across all projects and provides strategic management direction.
Position Responsibilities:
Establish work products and training efforts to develop systems engineering capability in all relevant systems engineering domains including trade studies, system-to-subsystem functional and logical allocation and decomposition, and definition of system capabilities, functions, and features.
Develop specific systems engineering work-product standards for common work products such as Requirements Traceability Matrix (RTM) and DoDAF Views, establish tooling and training.
Ensure the logical and systematic conversion of customer/product requirements into total system solutions that acknowledge technical, time, cost, availability, risk and other constraints.
Define pattern technical performance measures (TPMs), key performance parameters (KPPs), key performance areas (KPAs), measures of effectiveness (MOEs), etc. to help systems engineering leads ensure that the required and expected product technical approaches and configurations are achievable given the constraints.
Use metrics to improve product and execution quality, as well as functional performance and effectiveness.
Responsible for hiring, staffing, and handling all personnel issues. Provides feedback and formal performance and coaching reviews. Trains and develops direct reports.
Performs other functions as needed to support the company’s goals.
Essential Skills and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in an engineering program from an accredited college/university with at least 10 years of experience. Master’s degree with at least 8 years of experience.
Demonstrated history of team leadership.
Proven leadership skills related to training, planning, estimating, organizing and managing technical teams and activities across multiple engineering disciplines and communities.
Systems engineering process experience including experience in most or all of the following
Requirements identification, decomposition, and allocation.
DoDAF, MODAF, UAF modelling.
Interface control documentation and specification development and management.
Requirements implementation and verification assessment.
System-level compatibility assessments and integration analysis.
CONOP development and maintenance.
System Integration and Test.
Customer interface experience.
Ability to travel as needed.
